Puţin tango? Nuevo tango?

And I'm not going home.

Trei paşi înainte, trei înapoi
Unu!

What a difference a day made
I'm a slow developer, as M. would say. So slow that I still have my mind suffused with the colors, lights and sounds mixed together by Wong Kar Wai in this film I so rapturously adore: Chungking Express. And though I have re-seen it and re-felt it a while ago, there is one song still very much glued to my ears. Here it is.

I want to go to Spain. But I won't.
Ieri seara in Club Setup.
The guys sound slightly better live, though I really love this video.

Dream dancing
Because, against all odds, I could really use a looong night out and a walk by the beach at dawn.

Gogol Bordello
I used to think the perfect recipe for a perfect feel-good morning was a huge mug of coffee and milk + one of the old Mano Negra albums. Or at least this worked wonders during my thesis writing days. Recently however, since I’ve started feeling more and more in touch with my Balkan/CEE roots, a new set of lively drums and guitars came into the picture. This time together with a wild violin and an equally vivacious accordion. What sets me into the right mood lately is Gogol Bordello, a band who takes the best of Gypsy music and combines it with the best of punk, and who – apparently – is responsible for some amazingly energetic live gigs. I’m planning to see that for myself on August 10, at Sziget Festival on Margit Island :)
So here’s a (rather low-key) sample.
As for some of their more famous tunes, you’ll probably enjoy them only if you’ve found yourself at least once in your life dancing rowdily on the sounds of The Clash. Otherwise, you might find this too radical :)

Norah Jones / "Not Too Late"
I'm not a big fan of country music. Always thought it's a bit too corny. But there's something about Norah Jones' last album - Not Too Late - that made me hang on to it, though it does often sound countryish. It might be because I missed that mixture of light guitar strings, soft piano and mellow voice. I probably haven't heard it since Jewel's old albums and maybe some of Alicia Keys' early pieces. Plus lyrics are pretty good too.
Personal favorite: Rosie's Lullaby. You can hear it here (if you have tzeava) or here (if you don't really; ah, and ignore images).

Bebel Gilberto / "Momento"
